with the early coal phase-out in 2030, RWE Power AG, the federal government<\/strong> and the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia<\/strong> have agreed to preserve six former lignite villages in the Rhenish mining area. Morschenich-Alt is the first village to be revived. The village of Morschenich-Alt will once again become a lively part of the municipality of Merzenich<\/strong>. With funding from the federal government and the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia, the village is set to become the first \u201cplace of the future\u201d in the Rhenish district<\/strong>. This is a milestone for structural change in the Rhenish district.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, 7 December 2023, Georg Gelhausen<\/strong>, Mayor of the municipality of Merzenich, Dr. Lars Kulik<\/strong>, Member of the Executive Board of RWE Power AG and Minister Ina Scharrenbach<\/strong> will give the go-ahead by signing a joint agreement to transfer Morschenich-Alt from RWE Power to the municipality of Merzenich.<\/p>\n
