Designing together, learning from one another: Architecture students from Kyoto and Cologne begin their collaboration in Japan before continuing their exchange at the CUBITY Atelier House in Merzenich. There, they explore the landscape around the Hambach open-pit mine while sharing everyday life and a collaborative workspace.
tu! Hambach 2026 transformed the Rhenish mining region into an open laboratory for structural transformation for five days. Through workshops, discussions, exhibitions, and participatory formats, citizens, academia, politics, and local initiatives came together to jointly explore future-oriented questions concerning landscapes, housing, participation, and regional identity.
