If we allow it, Advent is a cozy time – a time for reflection. We have illuminated the inside of the CUBITY Atelier House during the dark Advent and Christmas season – switching on a light as an inner and outer orientation. Because light is the source of life and means hope and warmth for us humans. Light allows us to be productive. It also gives us a sense of security. By illuminating our CUBITY, we send this hope out to people.
The CUBITY Atelier House celebrated the official topping-out ceremony of the building on September 21, 2022. The event was opened with a welcoming speech by Dipl.-Ing. and architect BDA Markus Schmale. Ina Scharrenbach, MdL, Minister for Home Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Building and Digitalization of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Georg Gelhausen, Mayor of the municipality of Merzenich and Jens Broeker, District Administration of Dueren, also attended the special event at the centrally located Poolplatz.
The relocation of CUBITY from its current location in Frankfurt am Main to the Poolplatz in Merzenich (NRW) has begun. Preparatory work on the interior of CUBITY on the corner of Melibocusstrasse and Adolf-Miersch-Strasse in Frankfurt has been underway since the end of April. Outside, the Neuss-based specialist company Preusche GmbH (NRW) has made space for the scaffolding by dismantling the entrance steps and ramp as well as the terrace. The motto for the dismantling is “reuse instead of recycle”. The CUBITY removal is based on the premise of sustainability, prevention of environmental pollution and responsible use of resources. Once the CUBITY building and the foundation stilts have been dismantled, the area on the Nassauischen Heimstätte site will be re-vegetated.
CUBITY receives recognition in the “Exemplary Buildings in the State of Hesse” competition and travels to North Rhine-Westphalia as a CUBITY Atelier House. The CUBITY-LivingLAB now becomes a pioneering place for knowledge transformation in the municipality of Merzenich (Dueren district).
On December 23, 2021, the building application for the new location in Merzenich was officially handed over by the foundation’s Chairman of the Board, Dipl.-Ing. Architect BDA Markus Schmale. “With the prospect of preserving the hereditary forest and the Hambach Forest, the municipality of Merzenich plays a special role in structural development compared to the entire Rhenish district. With the CUBITY Atelier House, our foundation offers a pioneering location for knowledge transformation,” explains Markus Schmale.
