The Britta and Ulrich Findeisen Foundation for Art and Architecture invites you to visit

The Day of Architecture 2023 will take place in North Rhine-Westphalia from June 17 to 18. The Findeisen Foundation will be opening the doors of the CUBITY Atelier House in Merzenich on June 18 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and inviting visitors to tour the innovative meeting place for research and education. The focus of Architecture Day 2023 is on climate protection.

“Planning, building, living – architecture transforms” is the motto of this year’s Architecture Day organized by the German Chamber of Architects. A total of 145 buildings, including new neighborhoods, residential buildings, parks and private gardens, will be open to interested visitors on June 17 and 18. Sustainable and future-proof construction is the central theme of the event on Architecture Day. With this focus, the Chamber of Architects would like to place the emphasis on climate-friendly planning and construction of new buildings as well as the sensible conversion or continued use of existing buildings.

CUBITY Atelier House – a central meeting place for research and education

The CUBITY Atelier House is based on the guiding principle of sustainable and recyclable construction. The Findeisen Foundation building offers people from all over the world space for temporary research and living. The research work focuses in particular on the topics of architecture, urban planning, nature and landscape development in the context of structural change at the Hambach open-cast mine. The use of the temporary research and living space is limited to 12 people due to the 12 living cells available. The living cells each consist of a bedroom and workplace with associated sanitary facilities. The remaining areas, including the kitchen and lounge, are shared.

“The sustainable life cycle of CUBITY is particularly evident in the form of the remarkable, resource-saving construction method, which underlines the fundamental approach of sufficiency,” explains Anett-Maud Joppien, Prof. Dipl. Ing., M.Arch, Architect BDA, TU Darmstadt. Under the sustainable motto “reuse instead of recycle,” over 95 percent of all materials were retained during the dismantling of the solar, sanitary and electrical systems, measuring devices, sensors, floor elements, furnishings and other trades of CUBITY in Frankfurt and reused in the new construction of CUBITY in Merzenich. The building’s high energy efficiency is also in line with the guiding principle of climate-friendly and sustainable construction.

The Britta and Ulrich Findeisen Foundation for Art and Architecture, together with the architecture firm Schmale Architects GmbH, cordially invites all those interested in architecture to visit the CUBITY Atelier House at Poolplatz 1 in Merzenich on Architecture Day 2023.
