The CUBITY Atelierhaus is bustling with activity. Roland Seltmann from Xanten has delivered display cases that will showcase valuable exhibits. Conservators and archaeologists Anna Falke, Christiane Dirsch, Manuela Prechtel, and Maryam Jäger from the LVR State House have brought special archaeological artifacts that play a central role in the exhibition. Behind the scenes, experts are working intensively to set up the exhibition with the utmost care. The exhibits are carefully placed, lighting conditions adjusted, and information panels arranged. The entire team, made up of specialists from various disciplines, ensures that visitors experience a unique journey through the history of Merzenich.

Tracing Merzenich’s Extensive History
As part of the anniversary year “800 Years of Merzenich,” the first of three special exhibitions titled “(My) Home – Merzenich in History” will be launched under the curatorial direction of historian and archivist Inga Mehlert-Garms. The exhibition opens on March 12, 2025, and takes visitors on a journey through the history of Merzenich – from its first settlement in the Stone Age to the present day.
“The CUBITY studio house is itself part of Merzenich’s history. Here we simultaneously look into the past and the future. It’s an ideal place to bring 800 years of history to life.”
Inga Mehlert-Garms, Historian and Archivist of the Municipality of Merzenich
What Does Home Mean?
The exhibition focuses on the question: What makes Merzenich home? Why did people settle here? What political, economic, and social challenges shaped the region? The exhibition explores these questions and shows the development of the place from an archaeological and cultural-historical perspective. The special exhibitions are part of the three-year research project “Exploring – Understanding – Experiencing History,” funded by the European Union within the framework of the LEADER program and the Municipality of Merzenich. The goal is to research and bring the town’s history to life.
